Sausage sandwich

A sausage sandwich (or sausage butty) is a sandwich. Outside of the UK it generally comprises a bakery made bun (generally larger than a hot dog bun), and a link of Sausage. Popular brands of sausage for the sandwich include Italian Sausage (Hot or Sweet), German Sausages (Bratwurst, or Bockwurst are common), or American Country Sausage.

Popular toppings include mustard and grilled peppers and onions. Often served in such a manner at state fairsFact|date=March 2008.

In the UK the sausage sandwich can typically be found in "greasy spoons" (workers' cafés) and many roadside food stalls. It is a breakfast favorite although it may be purchased and consumed at any time of the day or night. It is typically served between two slices of white bread with tomato ketchup or HP sauce. English sausages served in hot dog rolls in the UK tend to be known as "sausage in a bun."
