Due to its proximity to Fort Hood, CTC has evolved from a small junior college into a college catering to the military. In addition to the central campus, CTC runs a Continental campus, a Navy campus, a European campus, a campus in the Pacific Far East, and a separate campus on Fort Hood. In addition, classes are held at many military bases, and the college ranks 5th in the nation among all colleges and universities in terms of online enrollment.

At the main campus in Killeen, the courtyard has a memorial to Lyndon Baines Johnson, and a fountain by which are metal markers indicating the boundary between Bell and Coryell Counties. CTC's library is named in honor of Oveta Culp Hobby. CTC's older buildings are known for their Mexican influences.

CTC offers a number of two-year Associate Degrees in various fields such as Computer Science, Nursing, Journalism, and so forth. CTC follows programs set up through eArmyU, and also offers full transferability of credits with University of Maryland University College.

CTC is also home to the PBS station KNCT-FM.

State Representative Jimmie Don Aycock of Killeen is a past treasurer of the Central Texas College board of trustees.

Central Texas College is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.
