William Henry Sneed

William Henry Sneed (August 27, 1812 – September 18, 1869) was an American politician and a member of the United States House of Representatives for the Tennessee's 2nd congressional district. He was born in Davidson County, Tennessee on August 27, 1812. After completing preparatory studies, he moved with his father's family to Rutherford County. He studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1834, and commenced practice in Murfreesboro. He served in the Tennessee Senate from 1843 to 1845. In 1845, he moved to Knoxville and resumed the practice of law.

He was elected as the candidate of the American Party to the Thirty-fourth Congress, serving from March 4, 1855 to March 3, 1857. During that time, he was the chairman of the United States House Committee on Mileage. He declined to be a candidate for renomination in 1856, and also for a nomination as circuit judge. He resumed the practice of law, and died in Knoxville on September 18, 1869. He was interred in Old Gray Cemetery.
