USS Suwanee

USS Suwanee

Three ships of the United States Navy have been named USS "Suwannee" or "Suwanee", after the Suwannee River of Georgia and Florida.

* USS "Suwanee" was a double-ended side-wheel gunboat commissioned in February 1865, sent in pursuit of Confederate commerce raiders until the end of the Civil War, and wrecked in 1868.
* "Suwanee", ex-SS "Mark", was built in 1913 by the Bremer Vulkan, Germany, and owned and operated by the North German Lloyd Lines. She was taken over by the United States Shipping Board in 1919 and transferred to the Navy for use as a transport or collier. She was not commissioned in the Navy.
* "Suwannee" (CVE-27) was a fleet oiler acquired in 1941, converted to an escort aircraft carrier in 1942 and in service until 1946.
