Steve Scott is a British
newsreader .Previously, Scott was
ITN 's Africa correspondent based in Johannesburg, Steve reported from many troublespots including Rwanda, Congo (then Zaire) and Zimbabwe.Before that posting, Steve was ITN's North of England correspondent based in Leeds and West of England correspondent in Bristol.Steve left ITN for a brief period between 1997 and 2000 when he was Five's anchorman for all their live sport. During that time he fronted more than 100 live European football matches involving British teams and also presented several England international games.
He also anchored Moto GP and Rugby Premiership programmes as well as having his own chat show - Talk Sport with Steve Scott.
He reported on when London was awarded the
2012 Olympics and then 24 hours later during the terror attacks on the capital - Steve was at the forefront of ITV's extended live programming.During that time foreign assignments took him all around the world to, among other places, Bosnia during the war there and to the United States where he covered as Washington correspondent on several occasions. He interviewed many of the big names of the late 20th century, including
Nelson Mandela andPrincess Diana .He also covered some of the biggest domestic stories of the 90's for ITN - the Fred and Rose West murders for example, and Steve was part of the award winning reporting teams that covered the Dunblane school massacre and Diana's death.
Between January 2004 and December 2005 Steve regularly presented on the ITV News Channel with Felicity Barr 1600-1730 weekdays as well as providing an evening service alternating between the two presenters. During this period he also presented the sports segment of the "
ITV News at 10.30 " when Felicity was off.Steve began his television career at
ITV West in Bristol joining as Industrial correspondent from local radio station GWR where he was News Editor and a presenter. He currently co-anchors "The West Tonight ", the main local news programme forITV West he can be seen Monday to Thursday at 18:00.Steve broke the death of the
Pope John Paul II live on the ITV News Channel and theITV Network, and also co-anchored the extensive coverage of the July 7th bombings along withAndrea Catherwood for several hours.In 2004, Scott began presenting the "
ITV Weekend News " occasionally, however in 2005 he became the main presenter whilstAndrea Catherwood was on maternity leave, when she returned he became more regular relief presenter, since 2006 he can be seen as one of many newscasters presenting the bulletins.In January 2008, ITV launched a new, late-night documentary series, "
Nightwatch with Steve Scott ". The programme makers go on patrol with police forces across the land in the battle against criminals and law-breakers, to expose the hard side of life on the front line with Britain's law enforcers.Not much is known about Scott's personal life, though it is known that he is the brother of
Setanta Sports presenter,Angus Scott .
