History
Sharjah Football Club (Arabic: نادي الشارقة) is a United Arab Emirates professional football (soccer) club. It is based in Sharjah city. The home stadium is Sharjah Stadium.Sharjah FC was established in 1966 under the name of Al-Orouba Club and in 1974 it merged with an existing club named Al-Khaleej (which was later reestablished) to become the main sports club in the emirate of Sharjah. Its name "Sharjah Sports and Culture Club" was officially registered in 1978.
Sharjah FC is embedded in UAE football history as it is the first winner of the official UAE football league in the 1973-1974 season. The club went on to win four more titles in the late 80's and early 90's in a period of great prosperity for UAE football. In a decade when the UAE qualified for the FIFA World Cup (ITALIA 90), Sharjah FC supplied the national team with no less than nine players which helped in promoting the club and creating supporter groups across the country.
The club is also nicknamed "The King", as it holds the record for the most President's Cup winner with 8 victories, the first in 1978/1979 and the last in 2002/2003.
Also, there is bright point in Sharjah history. It is the only team that has more winning of matches against any team in the UAE. There is no club in UAE preponderate on Sharjah FC in situation of winning the game against Sharjah FC.
