:"This article is about the novel. For other uses of the word, see Rottweiler".

The Rottweiler is a 2003 novel by British crime-writer Ruth Rendell.

Plot summary

The novel concerns the activity of a serial killer known as "the rottweiler", given the name by the media after one of the victims was revealed to have a bite mark on her neck (even though this was later traced to her boyfriend), who is operating in Marylebone. The third person narration is presented from the view of several of the characters living in the area, most notably Inez, the owner of an antique shop called "Star Street Antiques", and her eclectic group of tenants above. The novel is part satire, part thriller, part social and psychological examination of the characters whose lives are disrupted (or otherwise) by the activity of the killer.
