Argostoli Gulf

The Argostoli Gulf is a gulf that connects with the Ionian Sea and strecthes from near Makrys Gialos and Cape Agios Georgios in the south up to the northern part. The gulf is about 10 to 12 km long and 2 km to nearly 4 km wide. The eastern part of the gulf is like a bay to the east is a small lagoon where a narrow-lane road that is not suitable for trucks and buses in the gulf-lagoon border. The ferry line linking to Zakynthos and Lixouri from the port of Argostoli lies to the south. Streams that empty to the gulf are very rare. The Lassi peninsula lies also the southeast. The famous pond and a camping ground in the north cape of the peninsula is Katavothres. Beaches by the gulf include Lassi and Argostoli to the east and Lepeda to the west. A lighthouse is on the Lassi peninsula. The mountains cover the north and east and the Paliki peninsula to the west. Almost the entire gulf are encircled by roads including the Argostoli-Fiskardo and the Kardakata-Lixouri Roads.

Places

The settlements and towns that lie near the west side of the gulf from south to north are: Lepada, Lixouri, Agios Dimitrios and Livadi. The settlements that are within the east side of the gulf from north to south are Kontogourata, Farsa, Drapano and Argostoli.
