Andrew Boysen, Jr. is a
composer and conductor who has appeared withhigh school , festival anduniversity ensembles across theUnited States andGreat Britain .Biography
Boysen graduated from
Cedar Rapids Jefferson High School . In 1991, Boysen earned hisBachelor of Music degree inmusic education andmusic composition from theUniversity of Iowa , and in 1993 he received hisMaster of Music degree in wind conducting fromNorthwestern University . He then went on to earn hisDoctor of Musical Arts degree (also in wind conducting) from theEastman School of Music , where he was the conductor of the Eastman Wind Orchestra and assistant conductor of the Eastman Wind Ensemble.After his education Boysen became the Director of Bands at Cary-Grove High School in
Illinois and was the music director and conductor of the Deerfield Community Concert Band. Boysen eventually came to serve as an assistant professor and Acting Associate Director of Bands atIndiana State University , where he taught in the music education department, in addition to directing the Marching Sycamores and conducting the symphonic band.He is currently an assistant
professor in the music department at theUniversity of New Hampshire , where he is the Director of Bands. His duties consist of conducting the wind symphony as well as teaching various subjects including conducting, musical composition andorchestration . He continues to maintain an active schedule as a composer and receives commissions for theCedar Rapids Metropolitan Orchestra Festival , the Iowa All-State Band, theHerbert Hoover Presidential Library , and theNebraska State Bandmasters Association as well as many high school anduniversity concert bands throughout theUnited States .Awards
Boysen has twice won the
Claude T. Smith Memorial Band Composition Contest : the first time in 1991 for “I Am” and again in 1994 for “Ovations”. He won theUniversity of Iowa Honors Composition Prize in 1991 and in 2000 won theInternational Horn Society Composition Contest .
