Velika village nearBosanski Brod ,Bosnia and Herzegovina , FPR Yugoslavia, Petrović played for theNK Osijek during most of his career. He's remembered as one of the best player of the generation which achieve promotion forNK Osijek in late 1970's. After his career atNK Osijek he also spent some time in theUnited States .As a manager, he has been in charge of
NK Osijek ,FK Spartak Subotica ,FK Rad ,FK Vojvodina , and finally Red Star, with whom he won the 1991 European Cup. He has also managed SpanishRCD Espanyol ,Uruguay anC.A. Peñarol ,Austria nGrazer AK and ChineseShanghai Shenhua andBeijing Guoan . He had another two spells at Red Star before moving toBulgaria in the 2000s to coachPFC Levski Sofia and laterPFC Litex Lovech .
