Marshall Middle School (MMS) is one of three middle schools (6-8th grades) serving the North Allegheny School District. Located in Marshall Township, Pennsylvania, it is known for its high scholastic standards, and for 1999-2000 it was named a National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence.Fact|date=February 2007 It has an annual graduating class of about two hundred and fifty students. It also houses NA district's bus fleet during their daily downtime (after the elementary school students go to school but before the high school student’s return home), due to its centralized location in the district.Marshall Middle School was founded in 1993 and cost approximately 30 million dollars to build.

Principals

Mr. John Schwoebel was the school's original principal, serving until the 2005-2006 school year, when he retired his long standing post to Dr. Kathleen Roppa. Dr. Roppa left after the 2005-2006 school year to take the position of Assistant Superintendent of the Neshannock Township School District. The new Principal is Mrs. Cindy Kainaroi for the school year of 2006-2007.

Campus

The school is in a two story 'H' shape with two large extended wings for the auditorium and gymnasium on both sides. The eighth grade classrooms are in the central bar of the H, the sixth grade classrooms are on the right, and the seventh grade classrooms are on the left. There is a football/multipurpose field off of the gymnasium to the right, and a softball field next to that, which reaches 207 feet from home plate to the wall. Out past right field, there is a complex cross-country course that is used for NA Cross Country meets and gym classes. Farther past that, there is two soccer fields used by local soccer leagues. Marshall planned to have a pool in the design of the campus, but that plan was turned down.

Yearly Field Trips

Every year, grades have at least one field trip. Sixth graders normally visit a concert in Heinz Hall in Pittsburgh. Seventh graders take a trip to see "A Christmas Carol" every year during the holiday season since it ties in with the English curriculum. Seventh graders also take a field trip to Kennywood at the end of the year. Eighth graders take a trip to see a Pittsburgh Pirates game in the spring.

GOAL in MMS

GOAL is an acronym for Gifted Opportunities for Advanced Learning. This is a program in North Allegheny where advanced students who have done well on Iowa tests or CogAt tests get a chance to take a specialized test to get into the program which enhances their learning experience. In Marshall Middle, the GOAL program is very prominent. GOAL has their own office in the seventh grade wing of the school where GOAL students meet at times. The office is an office for three distinguished teachers, Mr. Daniel Scott Williams, Mrs. Pamella Ross, and Mrs. Dana Boyd. The GOAL office also has student President Elizabeth George and Vice President Max Petrosky who sign off on checks and have their say in other items on the GOAL agenda. Petrosky writes and edits the "GOAL News" every week.

GOAL students also take many field trips over the year. The large ones that they take is as followed: Sixth graders take a field trip in June to Wallops Island, VA, where they learn about marine biology. Student stop at Randle's Cliff Beach on the way back to find fossils (sometimes the fossil collecting is on the way down, weather permitting). Seventh graders do not take a larger field trip, but are offered many other smaller field trip opertunities throughout the year. Eighth graders take a field trip to Williamsburg to learn about colonial times. Before heading home, they make a stop to Busch Gardens, an amusement park in Virginia. Eighth graders also make a trip to Smith Island and Port Isobel East in the fall. For more information, visit http://teachers.northallegheny.org/RGebrosky/smith_island_2007.htm
