HMS "Hursley" (L84) was a
Second World War type 2 Hunt class escort destroyer of the BritishRoyal Navy . She is the only Royal Navy ship to have carried this name.Hursley is a village inHampshire .With HMS|Pakenham she sank the warship|Italian submarine|Narvalo near
Malta on 14 January 1943. The submarine was returning on a mission resupplying forces in North Africa and was carrying 11 British prisoners of war. 28 Italians and 8 of the prisoners died in the sinking.The German
U-boat "U-562" was sunk by "Hursley", HMS|Isis|D87|6 and aRoyal Air Force Vickers Wellington aircraft on 19 February 1943 in theMediterranean northeast ofBengazi .In December 1943 the frigate was loaned to the
Royal Hellenic Navy in December 1943, where she was renamed "Kriti". She reverted to her original owners, and her original name, on 12 November 1959 and was scrapped the following year.References
