Manga Studio

Manga Studio

Manga Studio (known in Japan as ComicStudio) is a software application for Mac OS X and Microsoft Windows used for the digital creation of comics. It has been developed since 2001 by the Japanese graphics software company Celsys.[1] It was originally distributed in the West by e frontier; since 2007 it is distributed by Smith Micro Graphics[2]. There are two versions of the program: the full-featured Manga Studio EX, intended for professional artists (retail priced at US$299.99 as of 2010), and Manga Studio Debut, with a smaller feature set intended for amateurs and less advanced professional users (US$49.99).

Features

Although it has features in common with general-purpose graphics software such as Photoshop, its tool set is focused and optimized for use in creating comics. It has tools for creating panel layouts, sketching, inking, applying tones and textures, and creating word balloons and captions. Early versions were designed for black and white art with only spot color (the typical format of Japanese manga), but version 4 (released in 2007)[1] introduced support for creating full-color art. The software manages both single-page and multi-page documents, in both right-to-left and left-to-right reading orientations. It supports input by a mouse or a digitizing tablet.
