María Magdalena Rodríguez was born in Cumaná, Sucre state, Venezuela, July 22, 1924, is an important folk singer and dancer of the Venezuelan eastern. Initiates her career as musician since she was a kid, in folk celebrations like: Comparsas, Velorios and folk theater. Also directed the Folk Dance group of the UDO (Universidad de Oriente). As a folk singer, her repertoire includes Fulías, aguinaldos, gaitas, golpes, eastern joropos, diversiones, zumba que zumba, malagueñas and merengue oriental.
For a long time was accompanied by the musical group El Chiguao, directed by Atanasio Rodríguez, appearing at important scenes of Venezuela, United States, Portugal, England, among other countries. She is also remembered for popularizing the folk piece La Oración del Tabaco.
