The breeding range of the Sprague's Pipits includes the Northern
Great Plains of North America. More specifically, it nests from the Peace River District ofAlberta (Semenchuk 1992), Turtleford, Prince Albert and Shoal Lake,Saskatchewan (Smith 1996), and centralManitoba (Manitoba Avian Research Committee 2003), south through North Dakota, to south-central Montana, westernSouth Dakota and northwestern Minnesota (A.O.U. 1998). In 1991 and 1992, casual nesting was recorded in the Chilcotin-Cariboo Region ofBritish Columbia (Campbell et al 1997).Wintering Range
Sprague's Pipits winter in the southwestern
United States and northernMexico . In the United states it occurs from southern California (casually), south-central and southeastern Arizona, southern New Mexico, central and easternTexas , southern Kansas, southern Oklahoma, southern Missouri, Tennessee and northwestern Missisissppi south throughArkansas andLouisiana (A.O.U. 1998). In Mexico it is fairly common to common in the interior from northeasternSonora andNuevo Leon south toZacatecas and San Luis Potosi and along the Atlantic Coast from Tamaulipas to central Veracruz. It is uncommon in the Central Volcanic belt, rare in west Tobasco and a vagrant to s Guerrero (Howell and Webb 1995).Food/Diet
