List of compositions by Johann Jakob Froberger

List of compositions by Johann Jakob Froberger

This is a list of compositions by Johann Jakob Froberger, arranged using FbWV numbers from the catalogue compiled by Siegbert Rampe. The catalogue is organized thematically and in a way that makes adding newly found pieces easier than in most other catalogues: numbers 100-199 are reserved for toccatas, numbers 201-206 for fantasias, etc.

The DTÖ numbers are provided where applicable, although they can be easily obtained from the FbWV number, because Rampe's catalogue conveniently follows the same numbering system, so DTÖ Canzona No. 4 is FbWV 304, DTÖ Suite No. 7 is FbWV 607, etc. The DTÖ numbers (also known as Adler numbers, after Guido Adler's edition) originated in the early 20th century "Denkmäler der Tonkunst in Österreich" series, volumes 8, 13 and 21 (in 1978 a new edition of Froberger's works was compiled by Howard Schott, but that quickly became obsolete after the discovery of several important sources).

New manuscripts with Froberger's music are found more or less frequently (as of 2007, the latest important one is the 1666 volume that contains 6 fantasies and 6 capriccios (all previously unknown), 5 suites (one of which is new) and three "laments" (two of which are unknown) [David Scholenberg. "Recent Editions and Recordings of Froberger and Other Seventeenth-Century Composers". See [http://www.wagner.edu/faculty/dschulenberg/froberger.html] ] . The authorship of these pieces is currently disputed, and they are not yet included in catalogues), and this list may not include some of the newly found pieces.
