The Ridings High School (popularly referred to simply as 'The Ridings') is a large secondary school located in the village of Winterbourne in South Gloucestershire, just on the outskirts of Bristol, England. It was founded in 1957 and opened by former Labour minister Tony Benn. The head teacher is Dr RS Gibson, who is the third head teacher since 1957. The school has aproximately 1500 pupils, not including Sixth Form.

Academic standards

The school has expanded considerably since its inception to become one of the most eminent comprehensive schools in the UKFact|date=August 2007, achieving consistently high grades in all qualificationsFact|date=August 2007 and providing services such as a technology college, Arts Centre and Sixth Form. It hosts the most popular Sixth Form in the county, with children joining at the age of 16 from all of the other local secondary schools.

50th Anniversary

In order to mark the school's fiftieth year of existence, The Ridings invited all of its former students and staff to celebrate the event in May 2007. It is issuing The Ridings' "fiftee" calendar as part of the celebrations.
