- Baker River (Washington)
The Baker River is a tributary of the
Skagit River , approximately 28 mi (45 km) long, in northwesternWashington in theUnited States . It drains an area of the highCascade Range in the watershed ofPuget Sound north of Seattle.It rises in the Cascade Range, in the northern section of
North Cascades National Park , and flows south. Most of the southern half of the river is impounded in lakes: Baker Lake, impounded by Upper Baker Dam, and Lake Shannon, in Lower Baker Dam. Most of Baker Lake is in theMount Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest . Upper Baker Dam is located in Whatcom County and Lower Baker Dam is located in the town of Concrete. Both dams are owned byPuget Sound Energy . The river flows south from the dam for only about 1 mile before draining into theSkagit River .
