The 1st Annual
TV Week Logie Awards (as they would come to be known) were the first awards ever to be awarded for work on Australian television. Television had began inAustralia only three years earlier, in 1956.Although other cities had television (
Sydney since its inception in 1956), the awards were forMelbourne television only.In 1959, no ceremony took place, and awards were given in only eight categories, two of which were for American programmes.
TV Star of the Year
The winner of the TV Star of the Year Award, which in later years would become the
Gold Logie Award for Most Popular Personality on Australian Television , was awarded toGraham Kennedy andPanda Lisner "Princess Panda" fromGTV-9 's "In Melbourne Tonight ".Other Awards
