nihongo|Gusuku|御城|castle, or just suku (城 "castle"), is the Okinawan word for "castle" or "fortress." In standard Japanese, the "kanji" 城 is pronounced "shiro". Many gusuku and related cultural remains in the Ryūkyū Islands have been listed by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site.
