System Design and Management (SDM) is a graduate program at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), USA. The program is aimed at mid-career professionals working in technical fields, typically engineering, who are interested in moving to the management ranks of their field. It is a joint program of MIT's School of Engineering and its Sloan School of Management, distinguished by the equal emphasis on engineering alongside the traditional MBA topics such as accounting, marketing, operations, and strategy. The program was established as MIT's first degree-granting distance learning initiative in 1996.
