Segal was born in
Canada but grew up inHouston, Texas . He is married to wife Jacquie, and has two sons (born inFebruary 2004 and inAugust 2006 ). Frequently he references his old Camo Army Jacket and can still remember the smell of fresh marijuana. He maintains a relationship with his mother, but doesn't seem to like her very much, as he frequently makes disparaging remarks about her and resists contact. Segal also suffers fromlupus , but apparently not a serious case. He had anAmerican Bulldog named Molson, who was put down after a long illness inJune 2007 . Molson's name was likely a nod to Segal's Canadian heritage, and in keeping with his roots, he also loves hockey,Wayne Gretzky , andAlexander Ovechkin . He's also a season ticket holder to theWashington Capitals .Career
Before coming to DC101, he worked as a radio personality in
Houston, Texas ,Los Angeles, California , andPhiladelphia, Pennsylvania . He was half of the "Z Morning Zoo" team on Z100 inNew York City .Segal is fond of
toilet humor , gross-out jokes, and oddball stunts, which comprise a large portion of material on his show, but he is also more than capable of serious and thought-provoking journalism. He's inquisitive and shows particular interest in current events, entertainment, politics, sports, and crime stories. His trademark is a loud, maniacal laugh. He frequently uses catchphrases, each with its own colorful origins, such as "Smell My Face!", "Do What?", "Rub The Phone Against It!", "Peace And Chicken Grease!", and "Thanks For Rolling With A Brother".
While most of his critics dismiss him as a
shock jock , those familiar with Segal know that in addition to being crude and silly, he can also be very serious and conduct intelligent and insightful interviews. He is also involved with many local charities including 'Olie & Elliot's Great Saves' with Washington Capitals goalie,Olaf Kölzig , and theNational Center for Missing and Exploited Children . He also features weekly interviews with "America's Most Wanted " producer, Donna Brant, to highlight specific cases from around the country, and has three captures attributed to these segments (throughOctober 2007 ). He also talks semi-regularly withJohn Walsh and has even appeared in a re-enactment on the show. In addition to these things, once upon finding out that the video-game unit had been stolen by a parent from the children's ward of the hospital he was in with his son in2006 , Segal arranged for several new & used video-game systems to be donated to the hospital via local merchants and listeners of his radio show.Controversy
FCC Fine for Bishop O'Connell High School Incident
On his
May 7 2002 "Elliot in the Morning" show, two sixteen-year-old female O'Connell students called to be considered in a contest whose winners were to becage dancers at an upcomingKid Rock concert atGeorge Mason University 'sPatriot Center . Goaded by Segal, they discussed alleged sexual activity at school. The students, who claimed to be eighteen, discussed giving oral sex to lines of boys in the hallway and having intercourse in stairwells and closets. The students, who had used false names on air, were suspended the same day for their comments. Angered by the students' suspension, Segal personally insulted the principal on air the following day, making lewd remarks about his family and his sexual activity. He also mocked the school's mission statement, specifically what he considered to be a hypocritical statement that their educational environment is "rooted in the life of Christ."
