Eden Atwood

Eden Atwood

Eden Atwood (January 1969 – ) is an American jazz singer. She was born in Memphis, Tennessee but moved to Missoula, Montana at the age of five, following her parents' divorceFact|date=August 2008.

She is the grand-daughter of A. B. Guthrie, Jr.Fact|date=August 2008.

Career

Eden was the youngest jazz artist signed to Concord Records and made her debut with Marian McPartland on "There Again" (1994), a recording now out of print. Her rendition of "The Nearness of You" on this early record is an example of her ballad style. Eden has continued to record and perform internationally. Two recent releases on the Groove Note label include a bossa album entitled "Waves" (2002), and a ballad album including Tom Harrell entitled "This is Always" (2004).

Personal life

Eden was born with a genetic condition called Androgen Insensitivity Syndrome [http://www.infoniac.com/science/the-secret-of-women-with-male-dna.html] . She is outspoken about AIS and intersex issues, working with national organizations and discussing her condition openly in liner notes on the Waves albumFact|date=August 2008.
