Locally known as Sample Road, State Road 834 is a 12.8-mile-long east-west commuter highway serving northern
Broward County, Florida . Its western terminus is an intersection with theSawgrass Expressway (SR 869) in Coral Springs; the eastern terminus is an intersection with North Federal Highway (US 1-SR 5) at the city limits boundary between Deerfield Beach and Lighthouse Point. Eastbound travelers overshooting the SR 834 terminus find themselves on a 1.0-mile-long 36th Street in Lighthouse Point. Thirty-Sixth Street dead-ends at acanal cut for theIntracoastal Waterway .Sample Road was for several years designated as S-834, part of the Florida secondary highway system. In the 1980s, most secondary routes were given to the counties, but 834 was taken back as a primary route.
In addition to those at the termini of SR 834, cities served by Sample Road include Margate, Coconut Creek, and Pompano Beach. Near an interchange with
