23 January 1949 ,Stoke-on-Trent , Mrs Jan Ostrowski) is a politician in theUnited Kingdom .Early life
She attended Biddulph Grammar School (now known as Woodhouse Middle School) on "Woodhouse Lane" in
Biddulph , northStaffordshire . At theUniversity of Hull , she gained a BA in [http://www.hull.ac.uk/socsci/under_grad_students/courses/socialwork.html Social Administration] . From the University College of Wales, Swansea, she gained a Diploma in [http://www.swan.ac.uk/cds/ Community Work Development] . From 1970-3, she worked on an Alcoholics Recovery Project. From 1974-8, she was a Local Government Officer for Swansea City Council. She worked for Wandsworth Council from 1978-9. From 1979-82, she was a Development Officer forNACRO .Parliamentary career
Since the deselection of her predeceasor
John Forrester in 1987, she has been Labour PartyMember of Parliament (MP) for Stoke-on-Trent North (the second female MP for the seat afterHarriet Slater from 1953 to 1966). Walley had previously been a councillor onLambeth Council .Personal life
She married Jan Ostrowski in 1981. They have two sons.
