Scituate High School (Rhode Island)

Scituate High School is the only public secondary school of Scituate, Rhode Island. It has an enrollment of roughly 535 students, servicing grades 9-12 for the entire town. At present, SHS is located along Trimtown Road in a building which also houses the local middle school.

Overview

The principal of Scituate High is David Light and the vice-principal is David Sweet.

Mission Statement

Scituate High School's mission statement states that it enables all students to reach high academic, civic and social standards by focusing on the whole person and developing all students into responsible citizens, effective problem solvers and communicators, and life long learners.

The school has long been known for its notable music program being the only one of its kind in the state of Rhode Island to offer an auditon-only symphonic ensemble. This ensemble consists of the most talented musicians in the school and is often annually cited as one of the best bands in the state. In 2002 David Neves, the Director of the Scituate High School's Music Department, was chosen as the recipient of Rhode Island's Teacher of the Year Award and was able to meet Secretary of Education Rod Paige and President George W. Bush.

Athletics

Scituate High School's athletics, the Spartans, have flourished in recent years with the schools hockey team and boys and girls lacrosse teams all joinging Division II of the RIISL. For the first time in 20 years during the 2006-07 school year, football was reintroduced to the school with the team joining Division IV of the RIISL. Many of Scituate High School's athletic teams consistently achieve eligibility for the postseason and play-offs.
