Banovina (region)

Banovina, (formerly known as "Banska krajina") is a geographical region in central Croatia, between the rivers of the Sava, Una, and Kupa. Main towns in the region include Petrinja, Glina, Kostajnica, and Dvor. The area is almost entirely located in the Sisak-Moslavina county. The area suffered during the Croatian War of Independence in the 1990s, with much of the population fleeing from the war and the economy in distress. The region is also called Banija by many of its inhabitants.
