cities =New Melones Reservoir is a reservoir on the
Stanislaus River in theCalifornia Central Valley , about convert|60|mi|km upstream from the river's confluence with theSan Joaquin River and forming part of the border between Calaveras County and Tuolumne County. The reservoir's 2,400,000acre-foot (2.96 km³) capacity makes it one of the largest in California. It is formed byNew Melones Dam , which was completed in 1978. TheUnited States Bureau of Reclamation built the earth and rock-filldam primarily forflood control, but it also provides water for human use andhydroelectricity production. Recreation available at the lake includesswimming ,fishing ,camping andwater skiing .References
