Penuwch is a
rural village inCeredigion ,Wales .History & Amenities
There is little recorded history, although most houses and farms date from the
1800s or earlier.Sarn Helen Roman road passes a couple of miles to the east and there is some evidence of quarrying in the more recent past.Sheep farming is the mainagricultural activity, butcattle ,horse s,poultry andarable are all present.Penuwch is about 1,000 feet above
sea level and 7mile s west ofTregaron while the coast is a similar distance further west.Tourism plays a part in the local economy, while other residents commute for work.It retains its pub, school and chapel.
Llyn Fanod , an uplandlake andSite of Special Scientific Interest , is nearby at Bontnewydd. Llyn Farch, another upland lake with supposed connections to a prophecy byMerlin , was still shown on Victorian maps just north of the village centre but is now an area of marsh.External links
