The band formed in 2004, releasing their debut demo "Bullets and Blacklines" later that year. The demo was home-recorded, and eventually put on high rotation on the playlist of national indie broadcaster
Triple J in March 2004.In 2005 they released an EP, "Streets Become Hallways", which spent 30+ weeks on the AIR Indie Charts, and recently re-entered the charts at No. 17, while the band toured with
Alexisonfire , After the Fall and28 Days . Most recently, The Hot Lies has toured with the likes ofSum 41 andYellowcard , as well as the more recentGood Charlotte andKisschasy . Blunt magazine and Rolling Stone labeled them one of their bands to watch in 2005.They have released another 5 track EP, "
Heart Attacks and Callous Acts (EP) ". So far, "Heart Attacks" has yielded two videos: for "Promise Me" and "Tell Me Goodnight". It spent 40+ weeks on the Air Indie Charts and has currently returned there for the past 14 weeks.Their single "Emergency! Emergency!" went on sale in August of
2007 and was successful at getting attention for their debut album which was to be released shortly after. "Emergency! Emergency!" contained the title song, the cover "Time After Time" which has long been a crowd favourite and an acoustic version of "Ghosts and Mirrors."Their debut album "
Ringing in the Sane " received lots of national airplay from stations such as5ADL andTriple J . The release was very successful. This instigated a review from local BLUNT magazine which read "After two impressive build-up EP's, Adelaide's finest emo popstars, The Hot Lies finally unveiled their debut full-length to the world, making lovers of local pop-infused rock everywhere rejoice. Abandoning their harsher post-hardcore beginnings, the yelling and screaming was barely anywheer to be found amongst the minefield of infectious hooks that so easily sucked you in and but so tenaciously refused to let go. With their emphasis on stronger songs, "Ringing in the Sane" was an instant 'Pies classic." "Ringing in the Sane " spawned two video clips, "Tokyo" and "Emergency! Emergency!" Both get regular play on Australia's Video Hits.Discography
