Romania n entry in theEurovision Song Contest 2006 , performed in English and Italian byMihai Trăistariu and composed by Eduard Cîrcotă. Tornerò was ranked first in the Romanian national selection on 26 February 2006, receiving 22 points in total. Although it received the maximum number of points from the jury, the song was only ranked second based on the televoting results (behind "Jokero" byAkcent , which, however, was ranked third by the jury). The song is an up-tempo number, with Trăistariu addressing a former boy-lover. He tells him that he is "keeping your smile on my mind every day" and that he knows he will return to him. The chorus (performed in Italian) in fact features him singing both that "she" will return to "him" and that "he" will return to "her".
Prior to the Contest, a line was added in which Trăistariu sings in a
falsetto voice "I just really miss you and I wanna kiss you".As Romania had placed third in the previous Contest, the song was pre-qualified for the final. Here, it was performed twelfth (following Macedonia's
Elena Risteska withNinanajna and precedingBosnia and Herzegovina 'sHari Mata Hari withLejla ). At the close of voting, it had received 172 points, placing 4th in a field of 24 and pre-qualifying Romania for the final in the next Contest. Following the Contest, "Tornerò" became asummer hit in Greece. New versions were recorded by Trăistariu himself, as well as the popular Greek pop artists Tamta andAnna Vissi .Chart performance
