University of Washington School of Public Health and Community Medicine

The University of Washington School of Public Health and Community Medicine serves as the public health school for the University of Washington. It is the only public health school located in the Northwest, and is headquartered in the Health Sciences Center south of the University of Washington main campus.

The school was founded on July 1, 1970, and consists of five departments: Biostatistics, Environmental Health, Epidemiology, Health Services, and Pathobiology. The Pathobiology department is being converted to an academic program and will close in 2008. A new Department of Global Health was established jointly with the School of Medicine in late 2006. In addition, the school also has academic programs in international health, maternal and child health, nutritional sciences, and public health genetics. These units confer some or all of the following degrees: BS, MHA, MPH, MS, and PhD. Through an arrangement with the College of Arts and Sciences, undergraduate students may also pursue a BA or a public health minor.

US News and World Report ranked the school fourth among all public health schools in its last survey of this discipline (2007).
