He got his start as a writer for "Alfred Hitchcock Presents ", and one of his episodes, "An Unlocked Window", earned him a 1966Edgar Award from theMystery Writers of America for Best Episode in a TV Series. He went on to write and direct a number of notable films, including "The Baby Maker " (1970), "The Paper Chase " (1973), "The China Syndrome " (1979), "Urban Cowboy " (1980), "Perfect" (1985), and "Bright Lights, Big City" (1988). He was a mentor to actressDebra Winger .His
life partner was actorJack Larson , best known for his portrayal ofJimmy Olsen in the TV series "Adventures of Superman".Bridges died in
