Hirakud is a town and a notified area committee in Sambalpur District in the Indian state of Orissa. It is famous for the Hirakud Dam built over the Mahanadi River. Hirakud is also an Industrial township with number of Industries particularly HINDALCO. Located 15 km from the nearest city of Sambalpur, it is a quiet town with a large portion of the population engaged in various Industries located here. This town is famous for Gandhi minar which is located in one end of Hirakud dam.
