List of Ranma ½ episodes

List of Ranma ½ episodes

This is the complete episode listing for Rumiko Takahashi's anime "Ranma ½".

Ranma ½ (らんま½) first aired on April 15, 1989 with "Here's Ranma" and concluded about three and a half years later on September 25, 1992 with "Boy Meets Mom - Part 2." Technically, it was released as two series: "Ranma ½" which ran for 18 episodes (the last of which was a clip show) and Ranma ½ Nettōhen (らんま½ 熱闘編) which ran for 143. The first "Ranma" TV series was cancelled due to low ratings in September of 1989 (despite its low ratings, the first 18-episode series is considered by some American fans to be the franchise's creative high point), then was retooled and brought back in December as the much more popular and much longer-running "Nettōhen". In all, there are 161 episodes. The anime series ended before the manga was finished, so no conclusive ending is shown. Airdates reflect first airing in Japan.

During this time three movies were also produced, "Big Trouble in Nekonron, China" on November 2, 1991; "Nihao, My Concubine" on August 1, 1992; and "Team Ranma vs. The Legendary Phoenix" on August 20, 1994. The first two movies are feature length, but the third was originally aired in theaters with two other movies: "Ghost Sweeper Mikami" and "Heisei Dog Stories: Bow". In Western release, the third movie was packaged along with the Original video animation episodes [ [http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=200 Ranma ½ OAV - Anime News Network ] ] , leading to confusion that it was an OAV itself. In this listing, it will be included in the OAV section.

Following the ending of the TV series, 11 more episodes were released as OAV episodes, the earliest on December 7, 1993 and the final piece of "Ranma ½" animation on June 4, 1996. The OAV episodes generally portray the characters having advanced more in their relationships compared to the TV series, and the episodes also tend to be truer to manga storylines.

Twelve years after the final OVA was shown, and the end of the manga, a new piece of Ranma ½ animation was made for the "It's a Rumic World" exhibition of Rumiko Takahashi's artwork. The new 30 minute special is based on the "Nightmare! Incense of Spring Sleep" manga story from volume 34, and was shown on odd numbered days at the "It's A Rumic World" exhibition in Tokyo from July 30th to August 11th." Television series

To stem less confusion, the original Japanese episodes will be referred to by their "Original" and the "Nettōhen" episode numbers, while the English dub episodes will be treated as if the "Original" and the "Nettōhen" series are one show. The potential confusion comes from the fact that thirteen episodes were shuffled from their original spots when they were released in North America.
