Institute of Road and Transport Technology is an engineering institution located in Erode, India, run by the Transport Department of the Government of Tamilnadu and is listed under category II colleges by the Directorate of Technical Education. The current principal is Dr. B. Viswanathan.

The Institute Of Road and Transport Technology (IRTT) was established in the year 1984 as Automobile research oriented Engineering College. It is run by All Transport Corporations of Government of TamilNadu. The Institute is located in a sprawling lush green campus of 350 acres. It provides a congenial atmosphere for Technical Education. It is 15 km from Erode Railway Station and Half a km from the NH-47 between Bhavani and Chithode.

The college is affiliated with Anna University, Chennai.

The Institute offers 4 year Undergraduate Engineering Courses in Automobile, Civil, CSE,ECE,EEE, IT and Mechanical Engineering, as well as 2 year Postgraduate ME (structural engineering and Thermal Engineering) and 3 year Postgraduate MCA course.

This college is located above a hill which give us a pleasant place to study. Fully filled with trees and other colourful plants. Those who studied here, got the good remuneration in their life. Lot of companies are visiting for placement.

Placement

At IRT Tech each department has placement representative and a student cell co-ordinator (elected annually) The placement Cell maintains a rich alumni database through which the students keep themselves updated of the happenings in the corporate area. There is a healthy, co-ordinated effort between students and faculty from all departments with respect to all placement activities. Various reputed concerns visit our campus frequently to recruit our high caliber engineers. In plant training and industrial visits are arranged by the placement cell to strengthen the Industry - Institute relationship.

A Placement and training cell with Principal as patron , Professor L.Peter Stanley Bebington as Placement and Training Officer, Placement secretary and student representatives from each department, is functioning in the Institute to look after the placement activities .

For the outgoing students for the year 2007 the total has reached 311 and the placement process is still on.

An Advisory Committee has also been formed for Training and Placement Cell with the Principal as the Chairman and the Training and Placement Officer as the Convener. The meetings are held at the end of each semester to take stock of the achievements and constraints of the training and placement activities.

An MOU has been signed by the institute with Infosys , Bangalore and our Institution is associated with Infosys Development Centre (DC) at Mysore. A senior infosion, DC SPOC (Single Point Of Contact) is identified to collaborate with our institution to take the initiative forward. The DC SPOC is Mr. Umesha Sridhara Murthy. IRTT SPOC is Mr. L.Peter Stanley Bebington, Professor & Head, Dept.of ECE.
