Gortnahey (derive|Irish|Gort na hAithe|Field of the kiln) is a small
village inCounty Londonderry ,Northern Ireland , 5 km north west ofDungiven and 13 km south ofLimavady . It is designated as a Hamlet and in the 2001 Census it had a population of 285 people. Altahullion Hill lies to the west of the hamlet, and there are extensive views to the east over the River Roe to Benbraddagh. It has evolved as two clusters of development, with an area of mainly public housing at Gortnahey Road and private housing at Beech Road. There is a primary school and Roman Catholic Church, but no commercial services. There are proposals to provide a community hall and two retail units on the site of the existing McCartney Memorial Hall.
