Thomas Merrill is
Professor of Law atYale Law School . He received a BA fromGrinnell College in 1971 and a BA with first-class honors in politics, philosophy and economics in 1973 fromOxford University , where he was aRhodes Scholar . He received his JD from theUniversity of Chicago Law School in 1977 and went on to clerk for JudgeDavid L. Bazelon of theD.C. Circuit Court of Appeals , and then Supreme Court JusticeHarry A. Blackmun . Before coming to Yale, he was the "Charles Keller Beekman Professor of Law" atColumbia Law School from2003 to2008 and the "John Paul Stevens Professor of Law" atNorthwestern University from1993 to2003 . He also served as a Deputy Solicitor General from1987 to1990 .Professor Merrill has published dozens of articles in the country's most prestigious law reviews, including the "
Columbia Law Review ", "Harvard Law Review ", and "Yale Law Journal ". He has co-authored multiple textbooks, generally dealing with the laws of property.Personal life
Married to Kimberly Evans Merrill, he has three daughters: Jessica, Margaret and Elizabeth.
