Zinj is the home of several foreign embassies including those of The United States of America and Russia. Mainly due to regional tension towards the United States and large violent demonstrations at 2003 held near the embassy, in which a Bahraini citizen was killed by riot police, several roads in Zinj remain barricaded with concrete blocks, and special security forces are frequently seen circling the area at night.
