*Mandarin/Cantonese congregation at Morphett Street,Adelaide, South Australia Who They Are
The Austral-Asian Community Church is the English Speaking congregation of the Austral-Asian Christian Church, which has been in operation for nearly 30 years. It was originally commenced by a group of people, who migrated from Malaysia and Singapore, along with some overseas students who were studying in Adelaide. In the beginning it was made up of a few groups that met in homes, but then developed into a bi-lingual church service. Over the years it has touched a number of different ethnic groups and during the period following the Vietnam war, was used by God to establish a congregation of Vietnamese people. In time they took control of their own worship and moved away.
The congregation is primarily made up of people of Chinese background from Malaysia and Singapore, although they have people from around sixteen different nationalities worshipping on a Sunday morning.
The church fits into the Protestant stream of church life, and is of the congregational government model. Doctrinally, they adhere to the Apostles' Creed for their statement of faith. They baptise believers by immersion, dedicate infants of believing parents, and celebrate the Lord's Supper on the last Sunday of each month.
When They Meet
Sunday service starts at 9:30 am and ends at approximately 10.450 am. Their worship is informal and contemporary. Testimonies, skits and other presentations are also a regular part of their service. Their pastors and visiting speakers from other churches and organizations deliver God's word in a practical, easy to understand and effective manner.
They also have a Children's Church with a team of dedicated teachers for children aged 3-15.
After the service there is also a morning tea of biscuits and tea or coffee after the service.3
pecial events
"Family church camp"
Usually held on the Adelaide Cup weekend. An annual event that has traditionally been held at Victor Harbour whereby they encourage families to attend to receive teachings from God through inspirational speakers, fellowship with one another and fun and games. It is a weekend of relaxation that is well worth the trip!
"Church Picnic"
Usually held in November/December. A day they encourage church members to bring new friends and some food to share for a relaxing picnic. They encourage all to come along and play games and get to know each other better.
Ministries
"Childrens Church"
The Children's Church work is led by Lesley Yeo and a great group of teachers and helpers. The Children's Church ministry is an exciting place to be. Children are not just entertained, but are taught the reality of worshiping together, learning together and growing into the likeness of Jesus Christ.
"God Real In People (GRIP)"
"GRIP" is for those who are high school age, and who are looking for a group of young people who want to get more serious about Jesus. "GRIP" stands for "God Real In People", which really expresses what they are on about.
They want to see God become real and relevant in our lives, so that God can use us to show our friends that God can be real and relevant to them. Their time together is mixed with fun activities, worship and bible studies.
The members of GRIP right now are

"Fresh"
'Fresh' is the name of their student and young people's ministry in AACC. It's for those just out of High School and beyond - and usually caters for those in the 17-25 age group. Fresh is an exciting community of young people who are looking to make the most of their lives in the context of a fresh and vibrant relationship with God through Jesus Christ, and of course - with each other. Fresh has a regular program each month on Sunday nights and meets in various locations around Adelaide:
"Overseas Christian Fellowship (OCF)"
Overseas students are a big part of the church. They enfold and support the students who have made the church their home in a number of areas such as: academic affairs, bible studies (personal study, Overseas Christian Fellowship, bible study programs), medical and other emergencies, and other practical matters (rental, moving, etc).
In February, they hold a Welcome BBQ for all new students to Adelaide. Great food and games, fun and laughter are all on the menu. Students also have the opportunity to meet church families, as well as more senior overseas students.
In July, OCF celebrates Christmas. As most students return home in December, many do not have the opportunity to experience Christmas in Australia. Chistmas in July is great fun for new and old students as they not only sing carols and eat great traditional christmas food, but also have the opportunity to understand what Christmas is really all about.
The OCF groups meet on a Friday evening at 7.00pm. If you are a uni student from overseas, you would be made most welcome to meet with one of these groups.
Cell Groups
One of the best ways to become a part of the church family, and to enter into real life of the church, is to belong to a Home Cell Group. These groups meet either on a Friday or Saturday night and vary from weekly to fortnightly. The one exception to this is the Ladies group that meets at Linden Park on alternate Thursday afternoons.
All of the Home Cell Groups are listed below and have their general geographical location given by suburb, as well as the night they meet. They cannot emphasize enough the great value of belonging to one of these groups. The groups provide a dimension of sharing that is not possible in a large church, as well as a place to learn and grow in the knowledge of Jesus Christ, and a place of support for you and your family. Please do not hesitate to contact their office for more details. They can tell you the make-up of the group and advise you if another group would be more suitable for you.
