Supernova Cosmology Project
- Supernova Cosmology Project
The Supernova Cosmology Project is one of two research teams that determined the likelihood of an accelerating universe and therefore a positive Cosmological constant. This discovery was named "Breakthrough of the Year for 1998" by Science Magazine [ [http://www.sciencemag.org/cgi/content/full/282/5397/2156a Cosmic Motion Revealed] "Science" 282(5397), 2156-2157] and, along with the High-z Supernova Search Team, the project team won the Gruber Prize in Cosmology in 2007. [Gruber Foundation Prize in Cosmology [http://www.gruberprizes.org/PressReleases/PressRelease_2007_Cosmology.php Press Release] ]
The project uses data from the redshift of Type Ia supernovae.
The project is mainly based at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. The team is headed by Saul Perlmutter.
