Scott Englebright (born
July 17 ,1971 ) is an Americanjazz trumpet player. He is best known for playing lead trumpet forMaynard Ferguson , and for being co-leader of the group "Tasteebros".Englebright (also known as "Scooter") began playing
piano at age 7, and startedtrumpet at age 11. He attendedUniversity of Nevada, Reno andUniversity of North Texas .Growing up, his idol wasStan Mark , whom he calls "God's own lead player". While at UNT, he was featured in performance and on recordings with theOne O'Clock Lab Band playing two very difficult high note feature tunes, "Danny Boy" (in1994 ) and "Maynard Ferguson" (in1995 ), both originally written forMaynard Ferguson . One of his friends sent his recording of "Maynard Ferguson" toMaynard Ferguson himself, and upon graduation, he was offered the lead trumpet spot in Maynard's big band. He toured with the band for a year and a half, and recorded one album ("One More Trip to Birdland"). After leaving Maynard's band, Scott played and/or recorded with many big bands in L.A., including Mike Barone, Steve Huffstetter,Bill Holman , Tom Kubis, Mark Masters,Bobby Caldwell ,Buddy Childers ,Jack Sheldon ,Chris Walden , Jim Widner, Joe McBride, andCarl Saunders . He also spent two years playing inPaul Anka 's big band.Englebright has always been known for his
range , power, and more importantly for the apparent ease with which he plays; this alone has made him a cult favorite among high note trumpet fans. However, his cult status reached a new level in the mid-1990's when he formed, with fellow trumpet player Donny Dyess, the group "Tasteebros". Despite the fact that the group only consists of the two trumpeters, they have released 9 CDs (and one "Best of" collection) and have co-authored 5 trumpet instruction books.External links
