Paul Steven Lawrence is a producer and director of instructional and educational media. Over the past 16 years, Lawrence has produced and directed a wide variety of documentaries, commercial and interactive media projects.
Lawrence was the executive producer of television and new media at the
University of British Columbia , where he spearheaded the redevelopment of the university's television and multimedia production area, [http://www.telestudios.ubc.ca/ TELEstudios] . Lawrence also lectured in digital postproduction techniques for the university's Department of Theatre, Film and Creative Writing. At the Banff Centre for Fine Arts, Lawrence was director of media production and training services (renamed the creative electronic environment or [http://www.ceebanff.ca/ CEE] ) There, he built a new vision and business plan expanding access to technology, developing new training programs and completed several television and new media production initiatives.In 2001 Lawrence was appointed as the founding director of Yale University's ( [http://cmi2.yale.edu Center for Media and Instructional Innovation] ). The Yale CMI2’s mission is to provide a focal point for learning and teaching involving leading-edge media and technology across the University. As a platform for innovation, the CMI2 advances the state of the practice for use of media across the University. In 2006, both central and medical media production groups were placed into the CMI2 group.
Lawrence has most recently played a central leadership role in launching several campus wide initiatives including [http://open.yale.edu/ Open Yale Courses] which provides free and open access of introductory courses to the public, the development of [http://itunes.yale.edu/ Yale iTunes U] , and the design of a state-of-art digital broadcast and media production center opening in the Fall of 2008.
