Indian Language School

The Indian Language School or I.L.S was established in Lagos, Nigeria in 1982 for the growing Indian community in the city under the auspices of the Indian High Commission. The principal of the school is Suman Kanwar.

The school was originally setup in a residential neighborhood - Illupeju at 11 Johnson Street. The school began as converted residences yet cramped with three floors, a playground, a basketball court and volleyball court.

Organization

Approximately 1600 students are registered at the school. The school surrogates the Indian Central Board of Education and helps overseas Indian students transition into the Indian higher education programs. The school has many athletic events and the school provides the children various facilities to make them a versatile talent.

The school follows the CBSE board of education. The textbooks used by the students are provided by the NCERT. There are almost 100 teachers. The languages taught to the students are English, Hindi, and the choice of the third language is between French and Sanskrit. Only the students of class 6 and above have to learn a third language.The other subjects include Social Studies,Science and Mathematics. This school was visited by many great personalities. It also carries out Computer lessons.This school only registers Indians, irrespective of their cultures or religions.
