- Yakir Aharonov
Yakir Aharonov ( _he. יקיר אהרונוב; born 1932 in
Haifa , Palestine) is anIsrael iphysicist specialising inQuantum Physics and holds a joint professorship atTel Aviv University inIsrael and theUniversity of South Carolina in theUnited States since 1973. In the Fall of 2006, he joined the newly formedCenter for Quantum Studies atGeorge Mason University inFairfax, Virginia . In honor of his arrival at Mason, theAharonov Lecture Series was established. In 2006-2007, the series will feature Nobel LaureateWilliam D. Phillips of NIST, as well asRoger Penrose , andPaul Davies . In the Fall of 2008, he left George Mason University to join the Schmid College of Science atChapman University .His research interests are nonlocal and topological effects in
quantum mechanics , quantum field theories and interpretations ofquantum mechanics . In 1959, he andDavid Bohm proposed theAharonov-Bohm Effect for which he co-received the 1998Wolf Prize .Education
Professor Aharonov received his undergraduate education at
Technion University inHaifa , graduating with aBSc in 1956. He continued his studies at Bristol University, UK together withDavid Bohm receiving aPhD degree in 1960.Employment
