CFCR-FM, is the community radio station in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan which broadcasts at 90.5 FM. The station also streams live from their web site and airs on SaskTel Max, channel 820. CFCR-FM is a member of the National Campus and Community Radio Association (NCRA).

CFCR 90.5 FM Community Radio is a non-profit, volunteer powered, listener supported organization. CFCR-FM aims to serve the alternative radio needs of the Saskatoon area. The society provides listeners with an eclectic assortment of music, spoken word and multicultural programming.

History

The Community Radio Society of Saskatoon (CRSS) formed after the University of Saskatchewan's station, CJUS, disbanded in 1985. The CRSS was subsequently initiated by many individuals who had been involved with the campus station. They first began broadcasting in 1986. The station is operated by an independent non-profit society.

Awards

The station was voted "Saskatoon's Best Radio Station" in "Planet S" magazine's 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2008 reader polls.

CFCR’s Annual On-Air Fundraiser

FM-Phasis takes place every year in late September to early October. Listeners are encouraged to make donations to support the radio station in exchange for prizes such as T-Shirts and CD's as well as an entry in the Grand Prize Draws.

CFCR is located at 267 3rd Avenue South. They can be reached via telephone at 664-6678 or the on-air studio at 242-5002 for requests.

Other

CFCR was the callsign of an early radio station owned by Laurentide Air Service in Sudbury, Ontario in the 1920s.
