Chinese language : 澳門郵報Pinyin : ào mén yóu bào), started in August 2004, isMacau 's oldest English-language dailynewspaper .It is owned by
Macau Everbright Co Ltd, a publication company set up by a group of local journalists, and printed byWelfare Printing Ltd, with offices in a commercial centre on Macau's main street,Avenida de Almeida Ribeiro . The newspaper, which is published on weekdays, is independent of any non-media business interests and emphasizes its "equidistance" towards Macau's six powerful gaming companies.The paper was launched to provide Macau with an independent English-language daily that caters for all its different communities interested in reading news in the world's "universal language," not just expatriates. In fact, about two thirds of the daily's readership are local Chinese, Portuguese and
Macanese residents, while the remainder are expatriates and tourists. The newspaper is also keen to promote multicultural tolerance and understanding, as well as Macau's unique tangible and intangible heritage.The newspaper is the world's only English-language newspaper to publish a daily page about the Portuguese-speaking world.
"The Macau Post Daily" supports the
One Country, Two Systems principle that constitutes the constitutional foundation of Macau's socio-political reality as an integral but autonomous part of China.In the fifth year after its launch, "The Macau Post Daily" has reached a daily circulation of about 5,800, including around 650 copies distributed by mail in
Hong Kong andGuangdong . Subscriptions account for nearly 45 per cent of the newspaper's circulation.The newspaper, which is headed by veteran Macau correspondent Harald Bruning, routinely offers internships to students from Macau, mainland China and elsewhere.
