The Paumanok Path is a 110-mile hiking trail from
Rocky Point, New York toMontauk Point State Park onLong Island ,New York .It travels through five towns --
Brookhaven, New York ,Riverhead, New York ,Southampton (town), New York andEast Hampton (town), New York .It is marked by white trail blazes.
The trail derives its name from the Native American name for Long Island.
The trail was inspired by
Stephen Talkhouse , a 19th centuryMontaukett Indian famed for his 25-30 mile roundtrip walks from Montauk toEast Hampton, New York andSag Harbor, New York . Landmarks on the trail are said to be resting places for him. Talkhouse is buried off the trail inTheodore Roosevelt County Park near Montauk.External links
