Calgary , Hudson Mack comes from a broadcasting family - his father Clarence Mack, posthumously inducted into the Canadian Association of Broadcasters' Broadcast Hall of Fame, had the long-running Calgary morning show, "Toast and Marmalade" and his brother Gary (Byron MacGregor ) pioneered "20/20 news" during his ground-breaking career in radio, atCKLW in Windsor/Detroit.His career began in the
British Columbia interior in 1980 atCFJC TV and Radio in Kamloops andCKPG TV and Radio in Prince George. He spent 19 years as senior anchor and assistant news director atCHEK-TV in Victoria before joining CIVI-TV in September 2004 as news director and senior news anchor.Awards
Mack's work has been recognized with a variety of industry awards including the Radio-Television News Directors Association (RTNDA Canada) Bert Cannings Award for Best Newscast and the Charlie Edwards Award for Breaking News Coverage. Under his capacity as the station's news director, CIVI has received many honours: eight industry awards in 2005, including two Edward R. Murrow Awards from RTNDA International, for Best Newscast and Best Investigative Reporting; and top news honours from the BC Association of Broadcasters; and in 2006, three Edward E. Murrow Awards, and an RTNDA Canada award.
In 2002, Mack received the Canadian Association of Broadcasters' "Gold Ribbon Award", for Outstanding Community Service by an Individual Broadcaster. In 2005 he was named "Broadcast Performer of the Year", by the British Columbia Association of Broadcasters. He has been named "Vancouver Island's Favourite TV Personality" three times in TV Week Magazine polls.
