Background and news career

Born in Calgary, Hudson Mack comes from a broadcasting family - his father Clarence Mack, posthumously inducted into the Canadian Association of Broadcasters' Broadcast Hall of Fame, had the long-running Calgary morning show, "Toast and Marmalade" and his brother Gary (Byron MacGregor) pioneered "20/20 news" during his ground-breaking career in radio, at CKLW in Windsor/Detroit.

His career began in the British Columbia interior in 1980 at CFJC TV and Radio in Kamloops and CKPG TV and Radio in Prince George. He spent 19 years as senior anchor and assistant news director at CHEK-TV in Victoria before joining CIVI-TV in September 2004 as news director and senior news anchor.

Under his capacity as the station's news director, CIVI has received many honours: eight industry awards in 2005, including two Edward R. Murrow Awards from RTNDA International, for Best Newscast and Best Investigative Reporting; and top news honours from the BC Association of Broadcasters; and in 2006, three Edward E. Murrow Awards, and an RTNDA Canada award.
