Pierre Browne (born
January 14 ,1980 ) is a Canadian sprinter ofBarbadian /Bajan descent. He represented Canada for the 100 meter dash and the 200 meter dash in the 2000Sydney Olympics , 2002Commonwealth Games , and the 2004 and2008 Summer Olympics . Browne is the son of Victor and Maisie Browne. He was born and raised in
Toronto, Ontario . He attendedVictoria Park Collegiate Institute (formerly known as Victoria Park Secondary School) and graduated in 1998. He won his first gold medal in 1998 in theOFSAA 100 and 200 meter dashes. During his years atVictoria Park Collegiate Institute , his coach, Kurt McIntosh personally coached Pierre. After graduating fromVictoria Park Collegiate Institute , he attended theMississippi State University , where he was the best freshman sprinter. He first came into the professional scene in the 2000NCAA South East Conference. That year, he beat two-time defending championNicolas Macrozonaris by half a second and he posted his personal best in the 200 m dash of 20.49 seconds. He is currently training with his coachMichael Holloway in Toronto.Browne represented Canada at the
2008 Summer Olympics inBeijing where he competed at the 100 metres sprint and placed 2nd in his heat afterMichael Frater in a time of 10.22 seconds. He qualified for the second round in which he failed to qualify for the semi finals as he placed sixth in his heat with a time 10.36 seconds. Together withHank Palmer ,Anson Henry andJared Connaughton he also competed at the4x100 metres relay . In their qualification heat they placed second behindJamaica , but in front ofGermany andChina . Their time of 38.77 was the fourth out of sixteen participating nations in the first round and they qualified for the final. There they sprinted to a time of 38.66 seconds, which was the sixth time.Achievements
